Assassin’s Creed: Rising Sun – Concept artist envisions AC set in 19th-century Japan

Earlier in October, Ubisoft revealed that they had plans to release more spin-offs in their newly announced Assassin’s Creed Chronicles series.

First announced back in late September, details on Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s season pass revealed Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, a 2.5D platformer. Ubisoft has since confirmed that there will be similar Assassin’s Creed Chronicles titles in the future, and that they are interested in exploring other possible facets within Assassin’s Creed lore (different time periods/historical settings) – stating the following in regards to the subject:

We really liked the side-scrolling idea, like Mark of the Ninja, and we thought it would be a really great way to explore some of the other universes we’ve created…One thing that’s really cool is that every one of the chapters of this game will be in the art style representative of that era in time. This is why Shao Jun’s game is like Chinese ink – very black and red. Once we have other characters and timeframes the art style will completely change to match that specific character.

While no other details regarding locations/time periods of where future Assassin’s Creed spin-offs may take place were officially disclosed by Ubisoft, it seems that concept artist, Vin Hill, had an idea…

Assassin’s Creed: Rising Sunan AC game set in 19th-century Japan during the Meiji Restoration, going so far as to create some impressive pieces of concept art showcasing what AC: Rising Sun may possibly look like were Ubisoft ever to decide to set a game during/in that particular time period/location.

For those unfamiliar with the Meiji Restoration, it was a chain of events that restored practical imperial rule to Japan in 19th-century Japan (1868, to be precise) under the Emperor Meiji. The Meiji Restoration established the practical abilities and consolidated the political system under the Emperor of Japan.

The Restoration led to enormous changes in Japan’s political and social structure, and spanned from 1868 to 1912. The Meiji Restoration was responsible for the emergence of Japan as a modernized nation in the early twentieth century.
