Killer Instinct Fulgore update

A new update was released earlier today for the Xbox One-exclusive next-gen Killer Instinct title. Along with the current season’s final character, the Fulgore update brings a new mode and several other multiplayer features.

Coming in at 6.8 GB, today’s Killer Instinct update is one of the loftier upgrades for a digital XBLA title. Rounding out the first season of characters is Fulgore, the iconic cyborg of the Killer Instinct series. With the initial roster now complete, an Arcade Mode has been added for single-player gameplay. On the multiplayer side of things, Killer Instinct now has an online lobby feature, which includes rooms for up to 8 players. Other players within the room can watch in-progress matches from friends, as a new spectating function has also been added.

Killer Instinct for the Xbox One was developed by Double Helix Games, the same studio behind the recent multi-platform Strider reboot. However, Double Helix was purchased by Amazon in February, for the development of titles on their new gaming and media-streaming console. As Double Helix was originally planning more Season-based content for Killer Instinct, the company acquisition puts the state of future DLC, or additional characters after Fulgore, in temporary jeopardy.

Fortunately, support for Killer Instinct will continue, as Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike – Online Edition developer Iron Galaxy Studios has stepped in to take control over the title. Iron Galaxy is also responsible for the satirical fighting game Divekick, which has been confirmed for next-gen consoles and the PS Vita.

The latest version, Divekick Addition Edition will also receive a “new” playable character. With parody characters like Dr. Shoals, and the Street Fighter reject Zubaz already in the list, Johnny Gat from the Saints Row series will be added to the roster upon the releases of the Xbox One and PS4 versions.
