Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Troy Baker, the voice of Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, has said that Hideo Kojima’s upcoming open-world title is one of the “most ambitious games that I’ve ever seen.”

During an interview on IGN’s Up At Noon, Baker talked about the scale of The Phantom Pain’s open-world setting, recording dialogue for Ocelot and uncovering details on the title’s story.

“I will honestly say that as far as scope and everything else, [Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain] beats it hands down,” Troy Baker told Up At Noon host Greg Miller. 

In terms of The Phantom Pain’s narrative, Baker revealed that “Kojima plays everything tight to the [chest]”—effectively meaning he’s hush-hush on the entire thing—but he did say there were “holy s**t” moments when he realised what portion of the narrative they were focusing on through the dialogue.

“We’re very compartmentalise,” he said. “Like, you know, Robin Atkin Downes, who plays [Kazuhira] Miller, will come in and do… it’s basically shut up Miller and Ocelot talks a lot.

“We both just talk incessantly through this game. You’re gonna get really tired of hearing us.”

Last week, Troy Baker made an appearance on Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty’s Kinda Funny Games’ Twitch stream and said that The Phantom Pain “may be the biggest game I’ve ever seen.”

The Phantom Pain, which is the follow-up to 2014’s Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, will have new details announced at the Taipei Game Show on January 31st.

Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima has recently been doing voice-over work on the iDroid, a core piece of equipment used by Big Boss in The Phantom Pain.

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q2 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
