Lenovo Beats Samsung To The Foldable Laptop Punch With X1 Fold

Samsung may be leading in the foldable smartphone display space, but Lenovo just managed to beat it to the punch in the laptop category. Namely, the company today announced the ThinkPad X1 Fold, what happens to be the first foldable laptop ever created. From the outside, this thing looks like an oversized Surface Duo.

This design philosophy lends itself nicely to that “wow, neat” factor, albeit its practicality is another matter, entirely. As things stand right now, the ThinkPad X1 Fold has been rushed to the market due to Lenovo’s desire to score a rare industry first for its camp. In effect, we’re looking at an eye-catching gadget that seems to be more trouble than its worth.

As anyone who ever spent any period of time trying to use an on-screen tablet keyboard like a physical one can attest. Muscle memory is an insurmountable barrier for this type of devices. Still, the Lenovo X1 Fold at least packs quite a punch, at least relative to its miniscule form factor. More specifically, we’re looking at a device with up to 1TB of M.2 SSD storage, 8GB of LPDDR4X (4,267Mhz) RAM, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and a 50Wh battery promising to last all day long.

All for a low-low price of $2,500 and upwards. In case this pitch has somehow won you over… well, U.S. pre-orders are live as of today.
