Virtual reality support has been a pretty substantial part of most recent marketing efforts centered at Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. And yet the game launched on the Windows Store without it. Scandalous, I know, but the overworked developers over at Asobo Studios are almost ready to make amends. Namely, they have just announced an official release date for the much-awaited VR update to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
This free addition to the base game is scheduled to hit the Windows Store on Wednesday, December 23rd. Just in time for you to gift someone a VR headset with a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020… which may not be a super popular Christmas gift, but you can bet whatever you want on that precise logic being behind the reasoning behind the said release date. Either way, the more objectivelly good news is that this VR update is going to be hardware-agnostic.
Whereas originally, Asobo Studios had the curious idea of making it exclusive to the HP Reverb G2 headset – which isn’t even out yet. The previous announcement unsurprisingly prompted speculation about how much HP has been paying for this exclusivity but based on today’s update, they apparently haven’t been paying anything.
So, there’s that, VR commercial flights, here we come… soon.
