Microsoft has been reported to say that it is betting on making Titanfall, Respawn Entertainment’s sci-fi shooter and its first ever game, a big enough hit to push the sales of its Xbox consoles, including its Xbox One console. Pushing Titanfall is anticipated to possibly boost the sales of the Xbox One up against Sony’s PlayStation 4, of which the PlayStation 4 was reaching 14 million games sold and had six million consoles sold as of March 2.
“We’re making a big bet that Titanfall is going to be a blockbuster launch for Xbox,” Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy for Microsoft, stated in an email interview with Reuters. “We don’t have a sales forecast for the game to share, but we expect it to be big for us.”
As part of Microsoft’s campaign to really push Titanfall for the Xbox One, it will promote the game at South by Southwest, an annual event that is now taking place in Austin, Texas, where tech industry experts, filmmakers and musicians gather.
Even though Microsoft sold 3.9 million Xbox One consoles at the end of last year, and even though it has hit a record estimated revenue of $4.7 billion for Xbox sales around the world since its last financial report, it is considered that the Xbox One console is still behind Sony’s PlayStation 4.
Because of its popularity, many PC and Xbox One users experienced lengthy delays and problems when entering a match in Titanfall. Thankfully, these issues have now been fixed. Titanfall has also impressed a lot of critics, scoring generally high scores in major review sites.
