Battlefield 6 turns one year old this October, and Season 5 marks the start of Year 2 for the EA shooter and its battle royale companion REDSEC. The Battlefield Team at DICE outlined the update in a Steam announcement on October 2, 2026. EA also launched a Battlefield franchise sale on Steam this week.
A Year of Content and Season 5 Start
Over the last year the team added four seasons, brought back Railway to Golmud and Wake Island, and introduced Naval Warfare. Season 5 starts Year 2 for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. A few weeks ago the team announced the return of the Open + Elite Series and Rapid Royale, a new REDSEC mode that shortens match time and raises intensity.
Vehicle, Anti-Air, and Gunplay Changes
Vehicle health regeneration and damage changes better reward infantry for good positioning and flanking. Mobile anti-air cannons become more effective against aircraft, and laser designators require more consistent tracking to maintain lock. An attachment tuning pass improves gameplay diversity, and certain weapons, gadgets, and poses get animation polish. Further vehicle balance includes lower Little Bird splash damage against infantry, faster firing secondary turrets with quicker overheat, MBT munitions tuned for intended targets, a missile balance pass, and vehicle-class specific air resupply pad cooldowns.
REDSEC Battle Royale Changes
REDSEC gets improved matchmaking ranked bands, reconnect features that return players to ongoing matches after a crash or disconnect, recommended drop zones for casual BR, and significantly accelerated armor mechanics and application speeds. The Battlefield Team writes that everything is subject to change and may be adjusted, delayed, or removed based on Battlefield Labs player feedback.
Class Rebalance, Weapon Balance, and 2027
Class training paths have been rebalanced for Season 5 with new tactical upgrades for Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher alternate paths are removed. Engineers begin with the guided function on the Aim-Guided Launcher unlocked. Support’s Supply Bag and Smoke Launcher move to the loot pool, replaced by Supply Pouches and Deployable Cover. Recon’s Drone moves to the loot pool and the Handheld Jammer takes its place. Weapon balance changes address the REDSEC meta, including the KTS100 Mk8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG553R, and KV9. Select categories get a slight bullets-to-kill increase against armor, including PDWs past 9 meters, ARs and LMGs past 46 meters, and DMRs past 21 meters. Subclass gadgets like Smoke Launcher, Supply Bag, Defibrillator, Breaching Dart, and Anti-Drone Gun join the loot pool. Coming in 2027 are more content, immersive vehicle gameplay, expanded gunplay systems, explosives balance review, an improved firing range, visual and animation updates, and bolt-action sniper rifle balance and counterplay evaluation. The full breakdown arrives in Update Notes the day before the season goes live.
