AMD shipped Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.2 on October 30 as an optional, non-WHQL Windows graphics driver that clears ten acknowledged crashes, driver timeouts and system shutdowns. The update contains fixes only. According to AMD’s official release notes, the driver is a fix-only release for Radeon RX 9000 series, Radeon RX 7000 series and Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series processors.
The Windows package is listed as driver version 26.20.15.12 (Windows Driver Store version 32.0.32015.12012) for Windows 10 and Windows 11. A second package carries 25.10.45.20, and the Ryzen AI NPU MCDM driver is version 32.00.20102.4480.
What the fix list clears
The most visible fixes sit on the gaming side. The driver clears an intermittent system crash or hang when switching between applications or toggling overlays while playing games with in-game AMD FSR Frame Generation enabled on Radeon RX 9000 series cards. A related fix removes intermittent application crashes or driver timeouts when opening or closing overlays such as Xbox Game Bar while the Performance Metrics Overlay is enabled.
Several game-specific shutdown and timeout problems are also cleared. AMD fixed shutdowns in Valor Mortis on RX 7600 and timeouts on RX 7000, shutdowns in FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE on Ryzen AI Max PRO 400, and an FSR-related hang in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on RX 9000.
The Steam launcher crash on AMD Radeon graphics products is listed as fixed. Video playback on Windows 11 with Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling enabled no longer causes driver timeouts on RX 7000 series products. Windows 10 systems with RX 9000 series cards no longer crash in games after the AMD Cleanup Utility is used to uninstall the software. AMD Install Manager also finds optional drivers correctly when Recommended + Optional is selected. All ten entries come from the Fixed Issues section; the Highlights section contains no additions.
What remains open
The same release notes list nine known issues. Phantom Blade Zero on RX 9000 series can still show visual corruption in the sky and on character hair; AMD recommends disabling the High-Quality Hair setting for the hair corruption. Cyberpunk 2077 on some RX 9000 cards can still crash or time out when video playback runs on a secondary display with AMD FSR Upscaling, AMD Radeon Anti-Lag and in-game frame generation enabled; the workaround is to disable in-game frame generation.
War Thunder on Radeon RX 5000 series still has an intermittent driver timeout. AMD does not promise a forward fix in this release. The release notes recommend using AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.1, an older driver, for users experiencing the issue.
Other known issues remain on Ryzen AI and Radeon hardware. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on RX 7000 series can crash or time out. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered can become unresponsive after Alt+Tab during gameplay on Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series processors, and it can show black corruption on RX 9000 series. The game appears twice in the known list, once for Alt+Tab behavior and once for visual corruption. Gears of War: Reloaded can show a black screen on Ryzen AI 9 400 Series processors unless the display mode is switched to Windowed and back to Fullscreen. Windows 10 systems may also see AMD Smart Access Memory disabled after driver installation, and AI Bundle components can fail to install in regions with limited Hugging Face or GitHub access.
A release cycle spent on stability
The previous release, 26.10.1, arrived around October 20-21 and added feature work. It brought AMD FSR 4.1 upscaling support to Radeon RX 6000 Series, Ryzen AI Max 300/400 Series and Ryzen AI 9 300/400 Series processors. It also added new game support for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, STAR WARS: Galactic Racer, FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered.
That feature update also carried a long list of known issues, several of which this release clears. By shipping ten fixes and zero features, AMD is using an entire driver cycle on cleanup. The notes prioritize stability for the newest desktop cards.
The frame generation crash
Frame generation is one of the headline features for RX 9000 series cards. The crash or hang happened when players switched applications or toggled an overlay. That routine interaction is unavoidable for players who run Discord, Xbox Game Bar, or the Adrenalin overlay.
This driver also clears overlay-related crashes when Xbox Game Bar or the Performance Metrics Overlay is involved. AMD’s own overlay and Performance Metrics software was part of the trigger. The Steam launcher crash and the HAGS video timeout sit in everyday desktop use, outside game benchmarks.
The rollback signal in the known issues
Some listed problems have no stated workaround in the notes, including the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced crash on RX 7000 and the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered Alt+Tab unresponsiveness on Ryzen AI Max PRO 400. For the War Thunder RX 5000 timeout, AMD directs users to install 26.9.1. AMD’s Radeon lineup has shown separate hardware limits this year too, with AMD’s 4GB Radeon GPUs failing a 12-game test in GamerHeadlines’ testing.
