In late February, EA and DICE launched the Platoons social feature for Battlefield 4, however it was only available for Premium members. As of yesterday afternoon, the feature is now officially available for all Battlefield 4 players.
EA and DICE have been pushing for social integration for Battlefield 4 with the enhanced Battlelog network. Battlelog allows users to track stats, add Friends, share stats on social media sites, and search for online servers. Battlelog is a service that’s not just rooted to PCs and the in-game client, as Battlefield 4 players can also access their Battlelog information and see games in-progress through a downloadable mobile app. In addition to Battlelog, DICE and EA added Platoons into the military FPS last month, but the feature was only available to Premium members. In a new post update from the official Battlefield blog, it was revealed that Platoons is now available for all Battlefield 4 players, across all platforms.
Platoons allows users to create their own private groups of up to 100 players, where they can share and track stats, and communicate through message feeds. Tracked competitive stats include the overall kill/death ratio of the group, player accuracy and skill-level, and score-per-minute. Another perk of the new feature is that players can now create customizable emblems for each Platoon to be used in multiplayer. A new progression system has been added, where groups of 4 players must play together as a Squad in order to rank up. Currently, this mode of ranking only features 10 levels.
For more information on how to set up a Platoon on your system, or if you’re interested in being recruited into an existing Platoon, a new dedicated section has been added into the official Battlefield 4 forum. Those who are already using the Platoons feature, what are your thoughts? Do you prefer to use the new feature, or do you enjoy creating on-the-fly groups with friends?
