Whether you love or hate it, Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil movie saga will continue, as the sixth film in the series is currently underway.

During the Beijing International Film Festival, acclaimed film director Paul W.S. Anderson was on hand to discuss the future of 3D technology in film-making, and the applications within Chinese media. During the presentation, Anderson announced that following the panel, he would “go home for ‘Rising Resident Evil”. While that’s probably just a working title, actress Li Bingbing has been confirmed to reprise her role as the live-action Ada Wong.

Anderson mentions that in certain regions, such as North America and Europe, 3D films tend to release in waves, riding on the hype of each other in order to collectively “milk the cow” of movie-goers. Another item pointed out, and one of the primary reasons behind the conference, is that the market for 3D films continues to grow in China. Where they’re often seen as a fad or a gimmick in North America, 3D films are still very popular within the Chinese movie industry.

As with the growing 3D film market, Anderson confirmed that the sixth Resident Evil movie will be presented in 3D. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as both Resident Evil: Afterlife and Resident Evil: Retribution were both presented in 3D.

The alternate-timeline Resident Evil movie saga isn’t Paul W.S. Anderson’s only video game related work, as he was also the director for the 1995 Mortal Kombat film, and the producer for 2005’s fighter-turned-film DOA: Dead or Alive.

The upcoming sixth Resident Evil film joins the ever-expanding ranks of future video game movies, including ones based on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sly Cooper, Metal Gear Solid, Warcraft, Gran Turismo, Assassins Creed, and Ratchet & Clank.
