Microsoft Announces New ‘Xbox Originals’ Programming

Xbox Originals

For the past year, Microsoft has discussed the idea of bringing original television programming to Xbox One, in line with their vision of making the Xbox One the center of your entertainment as the all-in-one platform. This idea is coming more to life with the announcement of their new concept of Xbox Originals. The new programming looks to include dramas, documentaries, animations, comedies, live events and more.

This post goes into more detail as to what Xbox is aiming to offer. Microsoft boasts that their content will feature interactive elements as well as other “unique features” that will work on a show by show basis. “Microsoft has had a long and rich legacy in the content business,” said Jordan Levin, Executive Vice President of Xbox Entertainment Studios. “The goal of having Xbox Originals is to help Microsoft in their goal of making your Xbox One the only platform of entertainment you need.”

“Halo” television series – live action series produced by Steven Spielberg in association with 343 indutries.

“Every Street United” – search for soccer talent in various countries

“Bonnaroo” – Music and Arts festival

“Signal to Noise/Atari Game Over” – Documentary about the Atari Landfill

“Humans” – British Drama where owning a Robot servant could have unforeseen consequences (Who knew right?)

“Halo digital feature” – Not to be confused with the series, this will be a film released later this year.

Does this have any excitement for Xbox One owners? Do you think that Microsoft should stop focusing on “All-in-one entertainment” and just focus on games? Personally I’m very excited for the Halo series and hope to see great things from Spielberg and 343 in the near future. Only time will tell if the Xbox Originals programming will bring more fans to the Xbox One or if Microsoft is simply wasting their time trying to appeal to the casual crowd. We will keep you updated on the latest happenings surrounding Microsoft and their new original programming initiative. Xbox Originals will be heading for your Xbox One later this year.
