A post from Sony’s official Playstation website earlier this week claimed that Watch Dogs would run at 1080p with 60FPS on Playstation 4. PS4 owners rejoiced with this news since multiple rumors have been swirling regarding the difference in graphics between last year’s E3 and now, as well as difference in graphics between platforms. However, this bold claim was shot down by Ubisoft today, as the developer finally commented on the situation and cleared things up.
Watch Dogs will run at 900p on Playstation 4, and 792p on Xbox One. Both versions of the game will run at 30 frames-per-second. Since Ubisoft has released this information, Sony has updated their Watch Dogs page and has removed the former claim that Playstation 4 will run at 1080p and 60FPS.
Creative Director for Watch Dogs Johnathin Morin explained, saying ““Resolution is a number, just like framerate is a number. All those numbers are valid aspects of making games. But you make choices about the experience you want to deliver. In our case, dynamism is everything. Exploration and expression are everything. You want to have a steady framerate, but you want to have dynamism at the core of the experience. The same goes with resolution.”
This may discourage perspective buyers of the game from getting the console version, in favor of the PC edition which will run at full 1080p and 60FPS. However to many gamers, graphics are not everything, and to some they don’t even care about petty things such as frame rate.
Does this change your opinion about Watch Dogs? I’m sure most gamers who are loyal to a particular console will still get the version they originally intended on buying and that this new information won’t change a thing. Personally, I plan on getting the PC edition so this news does not even affect myself or hose who plan on getting it for PC. Let us know in the comments your thoughts on the situation and if Sony was wrong for falsely advertising the graphics of Watch Dogs on their website. We will have to see how the game performs on consoles once it’s released worldwide May 27th.
