Square Enix’s epic franchise Final Fantasy has proven to be one of the most unforgettable ones in all the gaming history. With touching stories, innovative RPG gameplay and always with top-notch graphics, the Final Fantasy games have always been a craze. Even the remakes, when released are somewhat of a big news in the gaming world.
Old games can hardly be forgotten, but with today’s modern graphics, even the brightest gems are left aside in the ‘retro’ bin, because of their pixel aspect and 8-bit music. It is a respectable thing when a developer honors a game as much to make a remake of it, so many years after its first release.
This is the case with Square Enix and the Final Fantasy IV: The After Years game. Coming exclusively to the iOS, the game is not the first to hit the iDevices. The developers have already released Final Fantasy III, IV and V with some perks added to them, different from the original game.
However with FF IV: The Years After, the story is quite different, as the game is not just copy-pasted to the iOS from the original title. It has been totally renewed. The graphics are looking more than amazing, which hasn’t been done for both the Wii and the PSP versions of the game.
For people who are just getting familiar with the Final Fantasy series the game may look a bit out of the ordinary and not something they encounter every day. But as you get familiar with the gameplay and let yourself dive in deeper in the story you will be touched in a whole new way.
The story of the game starts a few years after the original ending of FF IV. You will once again get to save the world, but what most of you who are unfamiliar with FF IV will find interesting is that the story is not told in a straight line. You get to play different characters each with his/her own unique story, so during the whole game, the gameplay stays fresh and is hardly repetitive. At the very end of the game all the stories collide, just to show how a game can tell a more beautiful and touching story than a movie or even a book.
For people who like innovation, this game may not be a recommendation. It may have a whole new graphical look, but if you are not into old school role playing games, there is just no way for you to like it. The game takes both the good and the bad sides of the retro gameplay; however, this is exactly what makes this remake so unique. Despite the visual renovation, the heart of the game still says the same. That being said, even if you are not a fan of the Final Fantasy series, you should check this game out – who knows, you might just fall in love with it. And if you are a fan – what are you waiting for? Get your iDevice on and start playing!
