A Miiverse post from Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Nabbit will appear on the Mushroom Kingdom U stage for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros.
Here’s Nabbit, who appears in the Mushroom Kingdom U stage. You can’t see him, but Luigi is inside Nabbit’s bag.
He may not be a new playable character but he seems to be a stage hazard instead. Players may want to stay away from him as it looks like he will nab you and hold you hostage. Nabbit seems to stay true to his nature from New Super Mario Bros. U as he stole items from Mario and Toad in that game. It is unconfirmed but he could possibly be the “stage boss” Mr. Sakurai has mentioned before like the Yellow Devil on Mega Man’s Willy Castle Stage.
Nabbit has gained a bit of popularity since his debut. In the New Super Luigi U DLC he became a playable character replacing Mario and in Mario Golf: World Tour he as became a playable character though DLC again. It only makes sense to have him make an appearance in the Nintendo brawler as he is becoming a Mario regular now. It is nice to see all the detail they are putting into the game before its release and giving us more variety on stages than on past titles. We can assume that more stages will incorporate this and give the players more eye candy to their favorite franchises.
You can see more of Nabbit and many more Nintendo characters when Super Smash Bros. for Wii U launches this Winter Holiday while the Nintendo 3DS version hits store shelves on October 2.
