While League of Legends is notorious for it’s toxic chat and player behavior it has never had a negative affect on the game itself, at least not until Scammers claiming to sell “Cheap RP” (In-game currency) and other in-game items caused so much toxic activity in the League of Legends public chat that Riot themselves have had to disable it temporarily.
Riot has acknowledge that their system does have issues when it comes to chat rooms, currently the only way to combat toxic behavior is to Ignore one user at a time without any real report function outside of the game, this poor system has lead to many new players being verbally abused and closing their accounts, unfortunately this has lead to League of Legends becoming infamous for its horrid community and disproving players, which is quite understandable when new players are told to “Uninstall the game” within 5 minutes of their first ever game, even on the AI Game Modes this stigma still remains.
Riot has assured us that the Disabled Chat is only temporary and should return with more features and better sorting for “Roles” and “Mentoring” but in the meantime Private Chat Rooms will still be available however the company still needs to work on more tools to combat and respond to “Unwelcome Drop Ins” and Toxic Behavior, something that I believe has been in urgent need for quite some time.
