For the past few days Nintendo has had problems with its Online Service servers. The constant crashes and the network overload were preventing users from accessing the eShop and creating their own Nintendo Network IDs. Although, the support team at Nintendo tried its best to get their servers back online, things went from bad to worse.
The servers are currently in an intermittent availability and users won’t be able to access the Nintendo eShop until later today. The problem began around Christmas Eve. The new users trying to register online and the old users who were merging their Wii and 3DS accounts overloaded the servers.
Although Nintendo is apologizing for the inconvenience caused and seem to be trying their hardest to fix the issue as soon as possible Pokémon fans will be disappointed. The planned release date for the North America region of Pokémon Bank and Transporter was 27th December. However, as Nintendo are still struggling with their server issues, they delayed the release of the game. It is yet unknown whether users will be able to purchase the game, once the eShop is up and running.
Nintendo of America is constantly updating the server status via their twitter account. You can also check it on the official Nintendo Online Service Status page.
