Paperbound

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take fighting games like Super Smash Bros and add in the ability to induce your opponents with a dose of vertigo with just the click of a button? Well the team at Dissident Logic have and the result was Paperbound, a local multiplayer fighting game that gives players the ability to be a ninja who says “No” to the laws of gravity. The story behind Paperbound is quite simple. You play as ninja like characters fighting your friends in the settings of old storybooks. Some of the books have a familiar setting, like that of  Journey to the Center of the Earth, Skull Kingdom, Cleopatra and Dante’s Inferno. Allowing for games of up to four players, Paperbound features a variety of game modes including Versus, Team Versus and Capture the Quill.

Having had the chance to play the demo, the game itself plays really well and controls fairly easy. Wielding a sword, you have your basic melee attack as well as a one time use bomb lob. You have the ability to jump and the ability to control gravity, which can be used very strategically to either get away from an opponent or hit them with the element of surprise. Paperbound is a kickstarter project that is looking to hit a goal of $10,000 with a stretch goal of up to $25,000 which will add in the availability of online play. The Paperbound demo is also now available for free download off the kickstarter page, so if the idea of being a ninja who doesn’t believe in gravity amuses you, then I highly suggest you head over and check it out. The game is slotted to be available for purchase by October 2014.
