Call of Duty Advanced Warfare may be shorting PC players

As a PC player who only recently moved on from consoles, I find all the hype about next-gen consoles and games to be very underwhelming. As of yet, there are no “next-gen” titles released that surpass or even equal the highest potential of PC games. Now before people start writing me hateful comments, I am not banishing consoles to a realm of lesser enjoyment than PC’s. I am strictly talking about the technical prowess of PC computers. A game is a game and should be enjoyable regardless of how it looks for the most part.

2014 will mark the first year that a Call of Duty will be released specifically with next-gen in mind. While next-gen capabilities are probably the biggest selling point of Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, the game’s system requirements for PC suggest this is an empty promise.

Here are Call of Duty Advanced Warfare’s system specs for PC:

– OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit
– HDD: 40GB HD space
– Sound: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
– DirectX: 11
– Internet: Broadband connection and service required for Multiplayer Connectivity. Internet connection required for activation.
– CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ / AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 2.4 GHZ or better Recommended: Intel® Core™ i5 – 680 @ 3.6GHz
– RAM: 6 GB RAM Recommended: 8 GB RAM
– Video: NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX GTS 450 / ATI® Radeon™ HD 5870 or better Recommended: NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 760 @ 4GB

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare’s recommended system settings themselves aren’t exactly shocking. The game isn’t asking for a lot of power. It’s still running on the original source engine for god’s sake. Besides the unfortunate 40gb of hard drive disc space required, none of these specifications are going to strain the average gamer’s computer for anything but space.

The real problem with Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is that its system requirements are exactly the same as Call of Duty Ghosts. Identical. Not only is this disappointing because Ghosts was not a game optimized for next-gen, but it ran like crap on the PC. Ghosts pulled an amazing magic trick within a month of its release: it made its PC player base vanish. The game was horribly optimized for PC, asking a lot for a little in return. If Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is anything like its predecessor in terms of its PC compatibility then we can expect a similar vanishing act to occur this fall.

However, Call of Duty is not a tenth as popular on PC as it is on consoles. So, if Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is unimpressive on the PC, will anyone really care? Let me know what you think down in the comments.
