Announced in the twitter of Go Nimbus, the infamous Master Chief from the Halo series will be arriving shortly from his sky journey. For more than six hours, this super soldier has been in the air as part of a project; this innovative project is about journeying to space and seeing beyond the skies. Yet, members of Nimbus also want to share their experiences with the world by using a “payload” that communicates with the ground dwellers during the flight.
Operating two powerful radios, this device uses one radio to send a video back to Earth, but the other one sends and receives everything else–the balloon’s location, the desired camera position, and so on. The payload also contains an assortment of sensors (GPS, Barometric pressure, and accelerometer), a small computer (called a microcontroller) to process the sensor data, a set of batteries, some circuitry to distribute power throughout the payload, and a GoPro camera on a motorized mount. As such, interested spectators can actually watch the Spartan’s air-flying adventure.
