If Torchlight 2 was free on Steam last weekend, RTS players are getting some attention this weekend with Company of Heroes 2. The game will be completely free on Steam, with no limitations. In addition to making the game free, developers Relic Entertainment are also hosting a 10x XP event, in order to get new players up to speed faster. New players will get access to all the content of the game, including the singleplayer campaign, the co-op mode and the competitive multiplayer mode.
All of the game’s paid DLC content is also unlocked, so you can try out any and all Commanders for free, as well as enjoy the Theater of War from Operation Barbarossa. And, as usually the case with such free-weekend deals, Company of Heroes 2 will also receive a significant discount. The game will be at 66% of its original price, more exactly 11,89€, until the 20th of January.
For those of you that don’t know, Company of Heroes 2 is a World War 2-themed Real Time Strategy game launched on the 25th of June 2013 and made by Relic Entertainment, and it received mostly positive reviews from critics (around 80/100 in average). The community was not this generous however, and many players criticized the game heavily, citing issues with the AI, the UI or the inaccuracy of historical facts presented. In any case, you’ll be able to judge the game yourself, for free, so there’s really no reason why you shouldn’t give it a try. The free period begins today, and will last until the 19th of January, Sunday.
