Two storied Final Fantasy veterans have teamed up with small UK and France-based studio Kobojo to create a new JRPG with an art style reminiscent of Dragon’s Crown or Code of Princess. The two collaborators are Hitoshi Sakimoto, the man responsible for working on the soundtracks of games such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII, and Kazushige Nojima, who worked as a writer on Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, and Final Fantasy X to name a few.

Zodiac’s director claims that the game will blend elements of Final Fantasy, Valkyrie Profile, and Dragon’s Crown to create “a new online multiplayer experience.” Of course, the game can be played solo as well.

The story, which is still largely under wraps, has you explore twelve locations around a hub city, each one of which is associated with a sign of the Zodiac. A class system exists for the characters in the game, also being based around the twelve signs of the Zodiac, as well as the four elements, Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind. In between battles you ride around the various locations of the world on a Griffin, until you encounter an enemy. Battles are turn-based, and characters will be able to switch their Zodiac affiliations, and therefore their class, mid-battle.

The game will launch on Playstation Vita, with the possibility of also hitting mobile devices in 2015. Check out the TGS trailer for a look at the game’s battle direction and fantastic art direction:
