For those eagerly looking forward to the next piece of fun crushing failure and defeat that comes with any new Dark Souls gameplay, Bandai Namco have just announced that there will be a bit of a wait.

Bandai Namco announced today that the final part of their coronation trilogy DLC for their most infamous series will be suffering up to a weeks delay. ‘Crown of the Ivory King’ is to be the last in the trilogy that included previous installments ‘Crown of the Sunken King’ and ‘Crown of the Old Iron King’.

Originally due for a release of September 24th in Europe for Steam and Xbox 360, they’ve given a revised date of September 30th. Playstation fans will have to wait just a little longer, until October 1st. American releases are pending but it is thought that the delays will be similar.

Bandai Namco gave Joystiq this statement from the developer From Software: “The shear scope of Crown of the Ivory King facilitated the need for a bit more time to deliver to level of polish that the previous two chapters of The Lost Crown trilogy embodied. It is From Software’s intent to only release Crown of the Ivory King with the highest level of quality possible.”

With the largely positive reviews that the first two parts of the DLC trilogy have garnered it is no surprise that the developers want to make sure that the final chapter has the same quality, and no doubt perverse difficulty as the other two. While the previous installments did introduce some innovations to the game it is not yet concretely known what ‘Crown of the Ivory King’ has to add to the Dark Souls world. Screen shots show an ice-themed world, frozen over and with cool bad guys to match. If you like your frustration with a frosty edge then this will be the DLC for you.
