Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS was released in Japan on September 13th, and in North America/Europe on October 3rd. The Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. is rumored to release on November 21st.
Nintendo has stated the reason for not releasing the 3DS and Wii U versions simultaneously is to allow each version a debugging period.
Furthermore, the Japanese company has announced that gamers will be able to download a day-one patch in advance of the game’s release (the game will add the update automatically), which provides access to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS’ online multiplayer features.
