Battlefield 4 lawsuit update - EA

Earlier this year, in March to be precise, the chief financial officer at EA, Blake Jorgenson, told investors that the prominent game publisher had not seen any damage to the popular FPS franchise, Battlefield, after the host of issues its latest iteration, Battlefield 4, suffered at launch.

In an interesting turn of events, David Sirland, the producer at DICE Los Angeles, told GameSpot that players’ trust in the Battlefield series (due to Battlefield 4‘s post-release issues) took a severe hit.

Read more details on what Sirland had to say about Battlefield 4 after the break.

As previously mentioned, DICE producer David Sirland had a few words to say about how Battlefield 4‘s failure of a launch affected players’ perception and trust of the franchise. Speaking to GameSpot earlier today, Sirland stated the following:

“I can absolutely say that we lost player trust in the game’s launch and the early parts of the year. We still probably have a lot of players who won’t trust us to deliver a stable launch or a stable game. I don’t want to say anything because I want to do. I want them to look at what we’re doing and what we are going to do and that would be my answer. I think we have to do things to get them to trust us, not say things to get them to trust us. Show by doing.”

Furthermore, Sirland said that he is positive that the launch of the upcoming entry into the long-running FPS shooter series, Battlefield Hardline, would not be subject to the same problems Battlefield 4 had after its release.

Hardline‘s beta was hosted in June, and its tentative release date was delayed from an October release to a Q1 2015 launch because of player feedback.

In closing, Sirland said the following in regards to EA/DICE’s next game in the Battlefield franchise:

“It’s just a giant project, any Battlefield game is a giant project, and the more input you can get early, the better, and the more you can be open with changes you’re making or ideas you have, the better, I think. Because our community is much smarter than we probably give them credit for.”

What are your thoughts on what David Sirland had to say about Battlefield 4 and Hardline? Do you believe that the next game in the series will have a more successful launch? Why or why not?
