Final Fantasy VI Symphonic Poem

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic played a stirring medley of the songs of Final Fantasy VI this past June entitled Final Fantasy VI Symphonic Poem: “Born With the Gift of Magic,” and having just released the video of their performance online have created quite a stir in the video game music lover community. You can hear the twenty minute rendition of all your favourite Final Fantasy VI tracks by Nobuo Uematsu below, and watch the orchestra in action:

It is absolutely genius the way arranger Roger Wanamo has taken bits and bobs of the complete Final Fantasy VI soundtrack and intelligently combined them to create something new and exciting. While of course this rendition reminds me of Final Fantasy’s touring concert series Distant Worlds, Wanamo does something courageous in his medley, and conductor Andreas Hanson does a fantastic job stirring up the energy required to bring the themes of the world and its classic characters Kefka, Locke, Celes, et all.

What do you think of the Final Fantasy VI Symphonic Poem? I know I’ll be listening to it all day.
