Disney Magical World Review

Disney Magical World is almost a light hearted life simulation game. It can be compared mainly with such a game we all know as Animal Crossing. Magical World takes elements from the AC series and puts a twist on it with an added story, variety of things to do and much Disney goodness.

You’ll be meeting characters such as Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and even Whinnie the Pooh. The game starts you off in the appropriately Casleton where you will have to complete a dressed up tutorial in order to learn the basics of the game. You can use a pre rendered character or use your own Mii, which I thought was pretty cool as only a handful of games truly incorporate the Mii.

There are so many things to do in the game, much like Animal Crossing you can fish, buy clothes and pick flowers. You won’t be owning your own house though, as you will be confined to a single room whilst have to run a restaurant. Running the restaurant isn’t compulsory. I found myself simply exploring most of the time.  Characters are everywhere in Castleton but in order to reach other places like Cinderellas palace you will have to collect stamps. These can be earned by doing menial tasks for the various residents such as fishing various vertebrates or crafting clothing items.

All the characters are quite interesting, the Disney characters in particular are voiced too, adding to the overall feel of the game. Of course the game is for kids so the game does hold your hand to an extent, especially at the beginning however this didn’t bother me at all.

Along with the various types of gameplay available the game throws in a nice amount of combat areas, ensuring that the pace between fun and leisure is even which keeps Magical World fresh and fun.

Visually the game does lack slightly, character models look great, but the environments look fairly bland. Textures are detailed in some areas, yet extremely bland in others making you wonder whether more time was spent on these specifically good looking areas.

Sound is great as mentioned above the voice acting is solid when used and the soundtrack to the game is relaxing whilst enjoying leisurely activities. During combat the soundtrack switches to a more aggressive, quicker paced tune. The sound certainly sets the mood well in Magical World.

There are hundreds of items to collect throughout Disney Magical World from outfits to special items, cards that you can use to teach your Mii Disney interactions. With over 60 characters to meet there is plenty to see and do whilst playing the game.

Disney Magical World is a great game with an array of side missions to keep you occupied, an insane amount of collectibles and an abundance of characters to see in 3D, sadly there is no online element like Animal Crossing which is strange as I would of though sharing your experience with friends would have been great fun. You can interact locally, but that is it.

Disney Magical World is certainly worth picking up, it is one of the more interesting titles on the 3DS.
