Comparing The HTC Desire 816 vs Huawei Honor 6

by GH Staff

The newest trend lately has been the release of phablets. Everyone wants one, and every company is trying to capitalize off of it.

Not everyone is able to purchase the high-range phablets in the market, this includes the newest Samsung Note 4, the HTC One M8, the LG G3, and so many others. The good news for users, however, is many companies are aware of this travesty and have decided to offer their phablets in the market at decent prices. The phablets all feature a large screen and acceptable features that will make for much competition against the top-tier phablets. The HTC Desire 816 and the Huawei Honor 6 fall into this category, so let us compare.

Display and Design

For this mid-range offering, the Design 816 provides a plastic body. Rounded corners support the flat screen, with the left side providing space for the power and volume buttons. This will probably take some adjusting to for Android users. Despite the large size, however, the phone fits comfortably and rather ergonomically in your hand. The phone comes with 5.5 inch display, but leaves much to be desired with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and only 267ppi pixel density.

Unlike the Desire 816, the Honor 6 provides users with 1920 x 1080 resolution and 441ppi pixel density for a gorgeous display. The display measures 5 inches that will give some of the major competitors a run for their money. Plastic also covers the body of the Huawei Honor 6, but on the rear provides some glass. The Honor 6 is thick with 140 x 69 x 6.5 dimensions, and 135 grams. It is slightly edged by Desire’s 165 grams and dimensions of 157 x 79 x 7.99 mm.

Operating System and Hardware

For the mid-range price, the Honor 6 provides a powerful phablet. With an octa core processor which clocks at 1.3GHz for each, it provides a rare 3GB of RAM. A slightly less powerful processor is found on the HTC Desire 816, powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 400, it clocks at 1.6GHz, and RAM of 1.5GB. The Honor 6 also provides a better internal storage capacity then the Desire 816, with 16GB. That is two times more than the Desire 816 that only offers 8GB of internal memory capacity. However, users won’t be disappointed with the option of expanding to 128GB with their microSD card slot for the Desire 816 which has an advantage over the Honor 6 that only expands to 64GB. Each device runs on the KitKat 4.4 and allows for special skins to cover it. The Desire 816 also comes with best Sense UI, with the v6.0. With this users are able to transfer their data from their previous phone whether it was iOS based or Android. The Emotion UI is found on the Honor 6 combined with the Android OS, which makes it work similar to the iOS, a plus for users who are familiar with OS.

Camera

Looking at the specs, the devices offer similar cameras. They both provide a 13MP rear camera, and 5MP selfie friendly front camera. Each has features of LED flash, but the quality of HTC Desire 816 is quite sluggish compared to the Honor 6.

Battery

The Honor 6 pulls ahead with a better battery. Housing a 3100mAh battery it provides over 48 hours of usage. It provides a power saving mode that greatly reduces the battery drainage, making a reliable phone. While the HTC Desire provides a good 2600mAh Li-Po battery, it is non-removable, but lasts up to 737 on standby, and has up to 21 hours of talk time.

Price

The Honor 6 provides one of the cheapest options for the mid-range market, at only $330, it is far cheaper than Desire 816 price of $450.
