If you are at least somewhat familiar with the internet and how it works, you must have heard the phrase “Just Google it”. This just goes to show you how much people are using Google search engine nowadays, even rely on it. But that’s not all that this company has to offer. For example, they also allow you to search for directions. It doesn’t matter if you are taking a walk somewhere, driving or riding inside a public transport. This wonderful tool exists thanks to so called Google Maps- free navigation software provided by Google.
If you take a look back (say, 15 or so years), even the thought of travelling to an unknown destination was terrifying for many people. It usually involved having to find your way around with the help of paper maps (which are not entirely accurate, nor are they as effective as Google Maps). Today you always have the assistance of wonderful piece of software, which allows you to get to places very efficiently. All you need is your smartphone and the approximate address of the place you want to reach. It even shows you various traffic updates as you go along.
Naturally, these maps wouldn’t be as precise and efficient without the already existing Google services and programs, such as their powerful search engine, voice search utilities and live traffic monitor. All of these are combined together in order to provide you the most accurate and time efficient results. Voice commands, for example, allow users to find various roads, building addresses and business centers very quickly. This is one of the reasons Google Maps has become so popular. Also, voice search option is extended to help you find the most optimal route- be it a walking, driving or a public transport route.
Another useful feature that I wanted to mention is the distance calculator, which is also included in both Google Maps and navigation. As the name suggests, it is a feature that allows users to see the exact distance between their present location and their desired destination. This is very useful for a number of reasons; for example, you can use this feature to calculate the amount of time it will take you to reach your destination if you, say, take a ride or jog there. Also, it allows you to estimate the length of alternate routes. You can also share the picture of your travelling route on various social media sites.
Recently, Google has made it possible to combine their maps with other software to get additional functions or results out of them. For example, you could find the location of some particular person using software like Gawker Stalker. Or you can set it so the maps will show you zip codes for the locations you are browsing.
With all these fancy (yet very useful) features you can now forget about using such antiquities as paper maps. Google maps are being updated every day to include any changes to routes all around the world.
