Nintendo have revealed a bunch of new features coming to the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. These include the ability to fight with eight players simultaneously and the addition of brand new modes. All of this was shown on a live stream hosted by Nintendo entitled ’50-Fact Extravaganza’. - You’ll start the game with over 40 characters, unlockable characters will be in the game and will challenge you like in other Smash games.
- 8-Player Smash, the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros will support eight players simultaneously. It’s only available on certain stages, and It’s only available offline. The game features some large levels to support the eight player mechanic.
- Dual-Plane battling. A new stage based on Donkey Kong Country Returns was shown as an example. You can jump into a barrel and hop from the foreground to the background and vice versa.
- Brand new stage announced entitled ‘Miiverse Stage’ Actual Miiverse posts will appear in the background as you fight. Once the game is out, you will be able to post and support your favourite fighters.
- Palutena’s Guidance. This is similar to the codex that Snake had in Smash Bros Brawl. Hit down on the d-pad and watch the conversation happen.
- In one stage, Ridley will appear and attack everyone. If you hit him enough, he will join your side and help you. He can also become Meta Ridley. Ridley can be KO’d for a point.
- Every single item can have its frequency adjusted so it appears less often or more often.
- Classic mode has been revamped. It will feature a bunch of new content, the main addition being able to do it with two players.
- Brand new mode called Smash Tour. The mode is set on a board game and can be played with four players. As you progress around the board you will collect fighters, and eventually will fight with your collected fighters. If you win, you collect the losers fighters.
- The stadium modes will now feature the ability to do two and four players.
- Another new mode called Special Orders was announced. This mode features Masters Orders and Crazy Orders. Master Orders has you playing matches given to you and in return you will receive rewards based on how difficult each match was. Crazy Orders requires gold to enter and has you facing an endless amount of battles with a set time limit. The matches get harder as you go. The last fight will be against Crazy Hand, win and you will keep all of your rewards.
- Photo Studio will allow you to arrange your trophies and take pictures.
- Stage builder is back.
- Mewtwo as a playable character, he will be a free download to anyone that owns both the Wii U and 3DS version of Super Smash Bros.
