Nobuo Uematsu New game From FF6 Devs

In a recent interview with Nobuo Uematsu regarding his Lapis Dream Orchestra, a performance in Kyoto of all of Final Fantasy VI’s music, Nobuo Uematsu has stated that not only does he want to see a new 2D RPG from the original Final Fantasy VI team, but he has even gone so far as to speak with Final Fantasy Creator and former Producer Hironobu Sakaguchi about a potential collaboration.

According to a very rough interpretation of the Japanese from Google Translate and the information gathered from NeoGAF, they have even gone so far as to have pitched a story to SquareEnix, and although of course this is far from any official confirmation of a new game being actively made, the idea of spawning a new game straight from the devs of the shining pinnacle of 2D RPGs is goosebump-inducing.

RPGamer writer Michael A. Cunningham, as further evidence of Uematsu’s desire to create a new Final Fantasy-esque game with Sakaguchi, posted in the NeoGAF thread an excerpt from an interview he had with Uematsu back in 2011:

I have been working with Sakaguchi-san since I was in my twenties. We were very young and not afraid of anything, so we could do a lot of things. Now we’re both in our fifties and both want to create something that a big title from us. Something like we did before with Final Fantasy.

*laughs* If Sakaguchi-san had all the copyrights of Final Fantasy, and we wanted to remake Final Fantasy I, and we were sure we could make the best one, then we would both sign on.

It seems that regardless of whether or not this game will ever get made, Uematsu is trying very hard to make it happen, and wouldn’t that be nice?
