In recent months, there have been several smartphones that have been launched into the market. With the remarkable cheap price tag, it also has amazing specs, in which is the craziest part. The confusing part, is wondering if this smartphone is it worth the hype?
The Design and Build
The plastic body of the Redmi 1S stands out the most. It is equipped with a 1.6MP front camera, an ear piece, and a sensor. The back touch keys and the main menu make up the bottom of the screen, along with the home button. While it does takes some time to get used to, this is due to the buttons not being back-lit. However, LED is provided for the main menu key.
In the back of the phone is the 8MP camera, and noise-cancellation microphone, rear speaker and LED flash. It is removable, and provide slots for sim that supports 2G, and a sim slot to support 3G. It also houses its 2000mAh battery in which is replaceable.
At the top, you will find the headphone jack and the power and volume buttons to the right. It also fits in the microphone and ports for the micro-USB at the bottom. The solid feel of the Redmi 1S fits comfortably and light in your hands. The curved body is able to mass its thickness of 9.9mm, but you can still manage a tight grip.
The Screen
The Corning Gorilla protected 4.7 inch display provides a 720p resolution. The display is supported by the IPS LTE technology which provides a 312ppi pixel density. The sharp and bright display provides accurate colors, which is adequate enough for viewing angles. The downside however is rooted in its reflective and fingerprint magnet features.
Operating System
The Redmi 1S is powered by a Cortex A7 CPU coupled with the Snapdragon 400 processor, which provides 1.6GHz speeds. Better than most of their competitors in the price bracket. It provides a RAM capacity of 1GB and supports great image and gaming capabilities with the Adreno 305 GPU. The average rear speakers provide adequate audio levels, but the audio and call quality for the headphone jack decent.
Camera
As mentioned above, the rear shooter is 8MP that comes with 28mm wide-angle lens for f/2.2 aperture. This makes for some good quality photos, which is on par with Xiaomi’s flagship devices. The minimum noise in the pictures produces detailed images and spot-on color production. Thanks to the wide aperture and micro-shots produces beautiful pictures.
Also, it can capture videos of 1080p@30fps and provides good and detailed software stabilization.
