Dave Grohl, the front man of the musical band Foo Fighters, has shared some harsh views against musical talent shows including The Voice and American Idol.
While promoting the upcoming album from the Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways, Grohl expressed his feelings about musical talent hunt shows on CBS’s “60 Minutes”. According to Grohl, These shows do not focus on finding unique voices. He further added that talented singers are sorted out from the show during the initial rounds. Responding to Anderson Cooper’s question, Grohl said that these shows might have criticized highly talented singers such as Bob Dylan.
Grohl said that had he been competing in such shows, he would never be able to escape from harsh views of Simon Cowell. We will soon see Grohl on HBO’s mini series, Sonic Highways in which he will throw light on the process of creation of the new album which is to be launched on the 10th of November.
Meanwhile, the new season of American Idol will be on air from January 2015. These remarks from Grohl suggest that we should not expect him to appear as a guest on American Idol.
It is interesting to know about Grohl’s remarks. Let us have a quick look at his remarks. According to Grohl, it is hard to go through the process like all the kids do to get a chance to sing for one of these programs. They get ready early in the morning and keep waiting in lines for hours. Finally, when they get a chance to demonstrate, they put all of their efforts just to catch the attention of judges. In the end, most of them come to know that they cannot sing.
It is hard to imagine how this whole practice is contributing to the destruction of the musicians of the coming generation. Grohl is of the opinion that it is better for all the kids, who want to become musicians, to get together at some place, beat the drums and play the instruments they way they want. It will keep them energetic and they will have the best time of their lives. Then among those kids, some would become great musicians one day. This is the way musicians keep on doing what they do without letting someone to criticize their abilities.
Grohl supports his idea by taking Nirvana as an example. He says that Nirvana became the world’s top band just by playing old instruments and enjoying with friends. He says that there is no need of computer, internet, The Voice or Amercian Idol, to become a musician. Everyone who wants to sing, must sing.
These remarks from Grohl should not surprise us because he has also shown similar intensions earlier in 2013, by using a Facebook post which stated that “it is destroying the next generation of musicians”.
Let us see what does it mean to the fans of music. There is no doubt that some people are going to support Grohl and some are going to support otherwise. But the beauty of Grohl thoughts is that he inspires us to keep on on singing and playing music the way we want.
