Activision Blizzard has reported to its investors that it broke its quarterly net revenue record in this third quarter by earning a whopping $1.7 billion USD. This is in large part attributed to the stellar launch of Destiny, which was the largest new IP launch in video game history, generating $500 million USD in revenue for the company. It’s no surprise then that investors have been made aware that Destiny 2 is in the works.
According to Eric Hirshberg, Destiny players play an average of three hours a day with 9.5 million registered accounts, and more content packs beyond the upcoming “Dark Below” pack are of course in the works as well.
Hearthstone is doing very well with over 20 million registered players and the success of the recent Curse of Naxxramas content, and the investors have been told that the next update to the game will feature over 100 new cards. The Android tablet version will launch before the year is out, and the iPhone and Android phone versions will launch in 2015.
Also, World of Warcraft subscribers have increased by approximately 600,000 in the past quarter in anticipation of Warlords of Draenor expansion releasing this November 13th, bringing the total number of subscribers up to 7.4 million.
Meanwhile these mind-boggling profit numbers don’t take into account the very popular Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but investors were told that “purchase intent is high,” so expect Activision Blizzard to have a successful fourth quarter as well.
In this quarter 67% of Activision Blizzard’s profit came from digital channels.
