ABC channel is known for its versatility in programs and you can see all genres of serials like romantic comedy, supernatural heroes, psychological thrillers, detective and crime investigation etc. and for record, romantic comedies are more liked by people as they can be watched by any age group people. The age group 18-49 enjoys the romantic comedies like anything and if you compare in absolute numbers, more number of audiences are from this group only. So this genre is very famous and all the TV broadcasting networks try to capture the pulse of this genre and once the program becomes hit, it can become a constant source of income.
ABC broadcasting group came up with a new romantic comedy and named it as “Manhattan Love Story”. The name itself suggests that this series is based on Manhattan which is a busy area of New York and it is a romantic comedy. But the show didn’t got that much recognition and popularity as expected and now, the broadcasting company wanted to stop the production. So, the journey of Manhattan Love Story lasted for four episodes only. The makers of the series even stopped production and the series will not be telecasted any more. On November 5th (which is a Tuesday) actually the “Sex Actually” episode has to be telecasted from the Manhattan Love Story but instead of it a Halloween special program was telecasted. From next Tuesday, ABC network is planning to release “Selfie”, which is also not getting recognition as estimated by the makers.
As per the official sources, the last episode i.e. fourth episode of Manhattan Love Story received 0.7 rating as just 2.6 million people viewed it in total. There is a constant decrease in viewership as the first episode attracted close to 4.7 million views and the second episode was watched by close to three million people. The third episode was watched by 2.87 million and the production cost is not getting recovered for makers so the makers and producers met and finalized this decision. The first episode of this series telecasted on 30th September 2014 and the series ended in an unusual way on 21st October 2014. The Metacritic showed 4.2 rating out of 10 based on 24 reviews where as Rotten Tomatoes gave a rating of 29% and summarized it as cooked up story without logic and the bad jokes are is giving not giving laughs to the viewers.
From the announcement of the serial, it did not created any impact on the social network platforms like facebook, twitter etc. and the dedicated webpage for this show also did not get any special importance. The chemistry between the leading pair i.e. Analeigh Tipton and Jake McDorman received appraisal from critics but it didn’t saved it from stopping. Hope the directors and writers will come up with new concepts and will give a new boost to the romantic comedy genre. Hope ABC network which is known for its romantic comedies will also get its past glory very soon.
