Both of these applications were launched in the same year, i.e. 2011. Within just three years, these applications have impressed a lot of people around the world. Line had become the most popular messaging and voice call application in Japan, by the end of 2013. WeChat managed to attract more than 600 million users during the same period. The reason behind this success ratio is that WeChat is widely popular in China. The population of China represents more than 17% of the total human population. Line is much more popular in America and Europe. So we can say that both applications have a significant level of popularity. The difference is due to the population in Asia.

 

Design and Feel

When we talk about the design, feel and appearance, WeChat is again better than Line. WeChat features a natural, easy to navigate and intuitive interface. When we talk about Line, there is a sufficient margin for improvement. The design of Line should be improved in order to attract more users. It should really work on the placement of icons and display of options. Line has an edge over WeChat, with regards to the updates. Line comes with frequent updates, whereas WeChat does not provide better and timely updates.

 

Stickers

Stickers play an important role in order to attract the users. Line is far better than WeChat, in this regard. Line generates great revenue from the sales made through these stickers. WeChat has worked well on animated stickers. WeChat allows the users to preview the stickers by using “Enlarge Sticker” option. It helps users to view the stickers before finalizing the purchase.

 

Other Features

Basically it is Line, leading the market of messaging and voice calling applications. Line is popular in more countries as compared to WeChat. We should not just rely on the number of users, because the huge population in Asia has enabled WeChat to build its fan following. If we analyze it on the territorial basis, then Line has certainly attracted more regions as compared to WeChat. WeChat comes with another feature which allows the users to use their LinkedIn account; in order to connect with each other. It serves just an extra option for connectivity.
