Get Paid By Hacking League of Legends

League of Legends

You read that correctly, you can now get paid by hacking League of Legends! Riot Games has a program in place they have coined as, “The Riot Bug Bounty” program. For those of you that have a knack for finding flaws in security, you can earn a little money pointing out those flaws for Riot.

“No software connected to the internet can be considered 100% secure. We know that smart people all over the world poke at our software, websites, and infrastructure, looking for weaknesses. Some will successfully find security vulnerabilities. When this happens, it’s critical that we become aware of the vulnerability ASAP so that we can fix it before it’s widely abused.” – Riot Games said.

The way The Riot Bug Bounty program works is through the website HackerOne. Currently, The Riot Bug Bounty is in closed beta and only a select amount of people have had their chance to score a payout. The system allows people to search for any vulnerabilities in League of Legends, other Riot titles, and any web security issues they may have. Then, you can report the bug on their HackerOne page earning a minimum bounty of $100.

“While collaboration and insight is a motivation for some, cold hard cash is still a pretty great reward. Since the beta program’s initial kickoff in April 2013, more than $100,000 has been paid out to the small fellowship of invited participants.” Riot Games continued.

As mentioned, the program is currently in closed beta as Riot is looking to have a proper workflow setup for it. However, if you discover any bugs or exploits in League of Legends or their other services, they have provided an email to contact their security team in the meantime: soc@riotgames.com

Riot has pointed out on their HackerOne page what they are allowing people to hack and what they are not allowing people to hack. A few of these circumstances include: people are not allowed to interfere with the Riot offices, data centers, and compromise other players. Riot has already had several situations in which “researchers” have discovered exploits being used in League of Legends.
