The PS4 and Xbox One both released in November 2013, the PS4 released first in North America, exactly one week before the Xbox One. To counter this the Xbox One released first in Europe, exactly one week after the PS4’s NA launch and also one week before the PS4’s European launch.
Both consoles have had considerable success through-out late 2013 and 2014. Sony has managed to ship a whopping 13.5 million consoles while Microsoft has managed to ship a very respectable 10 million Xbox Ones. Both the PS4 and Xbox One have changed quite substantially since there respective launches; the PS4 has had a UI overhaul with the massive 2.0 update which has allowed for the famous SharePlay functionality in addition to YouTube support, Music player support, Themes and folder support. The Xbox One on the other hand has had a physical makeover with the removal of the Kinect 2.0.
The Xbox One has undergone several price cuts in multiple regions, it will be interesting to see exactly how long Sony can keep the price of the PS4 at $399.99 with the Xbox One beginning to close the gap. Both consoles with almost certainly see unofficial price-cuts on Black Friday from multiple retailers.
The 1st year of the heated Xbox One/PS4 race had certainly been memorable, no matter how many twists and turns we will witness in the years to come one thing will always be certain, Phil Spencer will remain classy.
