Sony recently announced the launch date for the streaming service Playstation Now. While there may be some cons to the service here are a few reasons why PS Now is an awesome concept:
Backwards Compatibility
One thing which both the Xbox One and PS4 failed to have at launch was backwards compatibility, this is a big reason for some to keep their last-gen systems with their giant libraries of games instead of making the next-gen jump. PS Now in many ways solves the issue of backwards compatibility, while gamers will not be able to use their discs, it is still a start.
Unlimited Play
When Sony unveiled the crazy rental prices last year for PS Now, the service was destined to fail. Hardly anyone was willing to pay almost full retail prices for rentals so it was good to see Sony listen to the market and opt for the subscription model instead. Now gamers will have unlimited access to an expanding library of games which is pretty impressive. Renting games through PS Now is still an option so everybody wins.
No Downloads Needed
With PS Now there are no giant downloads whatsoever, the service is cloud-based meaning that gamer do not have to download games or their massive patches. This means that gamers will not have to keep deleting games in order to download new ones.
Save Data Is held In The Cloud
If you play cross-save titles on Playstation platforms then you know how convenient the ability to upload game-saves to the cloud is. PS Now offers cross-save across all of the systems which it will eventually be on which is a massive plus.
Dualshock 4 Controllers Can Be Used
While the dualshock 3 (PS3 controller) was decent it was not the best, some felt it was too small, others had issues with the trigger buttons while some people just flat out hated it. The general consensus is that the Dualshock 4 is a step-up in every way so it is good to see that PS3 classics can be played with a controller everyone likes.
Trophies
One of the most surprising announcements from Sony about PS Now is that the service will offer trophies. While it is unlikely that PS1 and PS2 titles will be updated with trophies all of the PS3 games which do will offer a good reason to replay them. Hopefully the trophy list will not be shared with the current trophy lists as that would defeat the entire purpose.
No Unnecessary Hardware
Gamers do not have to own any Playstation hardware too access PS Now. If you do not like the PS4 or the PS3 then you do not need to get one. Eventually PS Now will be able on mobile phones and TV’s, two things which you most likely already own.
