Say goodbye to Wi-fi access, DS and Wii owners. Nintendo announced today that a “global termination” of wi-fi connection services for their DS and Wii systems is coming.
Gamers have until May 20th to enjoy the Wi-fi services but after that, it will no longer be possible to access features such as online play and leaderboards. Obviously this termination will affect all DS and Wii games that offer online multiplayer or online leaderboards.
However, even with these impending changes, it’s important to note that none of this will affect the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel or the Nintendo DSi Shop. You’ll still be able to purchase downloadable titles without any issue.
The discontinuing of DS and Wii wi-fi was announced today via Nintendo’s Australian site and will affect all regions of DS and Wii systems.
It should be noted that these changes will have no affect whatsoever on the Wii U or 3DS connectivity or online services.
