Valve Launches Steam Chat Filtering

Chat Filtering is the latest feature making its way to Steam because… oh, come on, this has to be one of the longest overdue additions to a gaming platform since Nintendo added 5% of the 3DS functionality to the Switch… no? Still hasn’t happened? Well, you can enjoy a nicely filtered and 100% bubbly version of Steam in the meantime.

Without all those preteens claiming they’re good friends with mother and all that. Joking aside, this is a pretty powerful feature addition to Steam that will allow for some robust and highly granular controls over one’s communications channels, making it equally useful to parents and those who just prefer talking exclusively with people whose voice pitches are at least a step below the sound of Jared Leto being murdered by one hundred duck-sized Zayns while Gigi Hadid is doing her best impression of tinnitus.

Either way, this is a completely optional feature, so it’s not like Gaben’s forcing you to use it because that’s how Valve is going to release Half-Life 3, as a chat filter exclusive, or something. Like any good software feature addition, you can utilize this functionalityas much or as little as you want or need and it will never get in the way or be difficult to return to.

Kudos to Valve.
