Gadget enthusiasts and tech savvy iOS fans, rejoice. While Apple has not confirmed anything at WWDC about its upcoming wearable tech, the iWatch, some solid leaks and industry insiders would suggest that the iWatch is in fact coming out this year, and no later than October. This pretty much falls in between the planned releases of the two iPhone 6 models in September and November, and also fits the time period when we’re expecting to see the new iPads emerge.
The Apple iWatch will no doubt be paired with the new iPhones and iPads at some point, but the device will be sold separately too. The iWatch will focus on similar health-oriented features as the Samsung wearable devices do, and will run on a modified version of the iOS 8. The smartwatch will feature a curved OLED display. This rumor seems to contradict previous speculation that suggested that the iWatch will use a circular display, similar to what we’ve seen in the Moto 360. Both rumors should be taken with a grain of salt at this point, but it’s more reasonable to believe that a rectangular, curved display will be the one Apple goes with.
The iWatch will make use of the HealthKit, the same kit that is used to heavily market the iOS 8, and will have functions such as heart-rate sensing, will monitor sleeping cycles, oxygen levels and much more. In short, it’s the perfect tool for those trying to stay healthy and fit. It’s unclear at this point whether or not the iWatch will feature SIM support and will act as an individual device, or if it will be exclusively paired with an iPhone. Regardless, we’re extremely curious to see it in action, and we won’t have to wait more than until October to do so. The iWatch is set to enter production in late July or early August, similarly to the iPhone 6, which would indicate that the October release window is fairly accurate.
