Sony’s Project Morpheus is not the only VR to steal the spotlight. The Oculus Rift ‘s 2.0 Development Kit has been detailed, and we finally get to see the official specs of the highly anticipated VR system for the PC. The new 2.0 kit allows developers to build extremely complex games for the Oculus Rift, bringing VR technology one step closer to becoming a reality. We’re no longer talking about prototype and science-fiction like gadgets. This is actually happening, and we’ll be able to play Virtual Reality (VR) games through the Oculus Rift soon enough.

Now, what really is great about the 2.0 version of Oculus Rift is how developer-centered it really is. We’re finally seeing the tools needed for devs to start making quality games for the VR, not just random demos. For instance, the Oculus Rift DK2 (Development Kit 2) has built-in engine integration support for the Unreal Development Kit, Unreal Engine 4 and Unity 4. Definitely enough to get developers interested. Add to that the VR’s built-in latency testing kit or its new positional tracking technology and you get something solid to work with. At this rate, we should be seeing really good AAA games coming out for the Oculus Rift in 2-3 years’ time. Who knows, perhaps the new Half Life 3 or Fallout 4 will work entirely and exclusively through the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality. Definitely sounds appealing, does it not?
