Remastered Editions of the Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4 and Xbox One

by GH Staff

Fans of the game series Mass Effect will likely be delighted to learn that it is possible we will see remastered and updated versions of the games released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Aaryn Flynn, GM of BioWare’s Edmonton and Montreal studios, announced on Twitter that there had been “internal discussions” regarding the matter. Humorously, the revelation occurred 82 days after the original tweet, submitted by user shinobi602, posed the following question: “What do you guys think about releasing an ME Trilogy remaster for PS4/XB1? 1080p/high-res textures/60fps, etc?”

Interestingly enough, this is something that has been largely unheard of until now. BioWare is thought to be working on the newest game in the series, Mass Effect 4, so it is difficult to say whether or not the remastered editions will ever see the light of day. Flynn’s comment stating that he finds it “great” that people would be keen for a next-generation version of the series seems to imply that consumer hype and demand may help fuel BioWare’s desires to initiate such a bold project.

If they do decide to go down this path, we hope they take note of Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider reboot, which saw a remastered “Definitive Edition” hit both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after having been previously released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. While the Definitive Edition was well-received by critics, many gamers found it to be nothing more than a cash grab, stating that the graphical enhancements were minimal and unnecessary.
