Russian singer Origa has died at the age of 44 after a prolonged battle with lung cancer.
Russian voice actor Jenya confirmed the news on Twitter that Origa had passed away on January 17th, 2015.
Origa, real name Ol’ga Vital’evna Yakovleva, was a well-known musician for the work she had done in gaming and anime. Some of her notable music featured in Final Fantasy XIII-2, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Aion: Steel Cavalry.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, most notably, was one of the reasons why Origa gained wider recognition outside of Japan, as she was involved in the two soundtracks for the anime: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex O.S.T. and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex O.S.T. 2.
The 44-year-old Russian was also known for her contribution to the ending theme of the Japanese show Fantastic Children, “Mizu no Madoromi.”
Additionally, Origa performed at several live concerts over the past few years, with the singer’s most recent appearance being at Anime Revolution in 2014.
