Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare PlayStation 4 Review

Call Of Duty is back with the next installment of the franchise Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare. This new iteration of the franchise brings new mechanics, a new era and a new style of gameplay. Admittedly Call Of Duty comes every year with roughly more of the same, however it still manages to stay core to its roots while providing the most explosive action experience in a game.

Advanced Warfare is no different. It offers a variety of great gameplay sequences, a fantastic story and the award winning multiplayer that no other company seems to be able to match. In Advanced Warfare you’re a soldier that has previously been injured in battle. Much like soldiers of today that are injured, they are then given the best help available in order to carry on with their lives as somewhat normal.

In Advanced Warfare these soldiers have been given an extra chance to serve their country with Atlas, a corporation that specializes in warfare using only the finest soldiers. It gives them above military grade prosthetics and places them back into the battlefield.

You play as Jack Mitchell and your goal at first is simply to continue doing what you love, fighting. When the plot twist kicks in though you will be fighting for your life as you make your way through the challenging campaign. Exo Suits are the most game changing thing this time round providing play similar to last years Titan Fall. Traversing the battlefield is different due to possession of the Exo Suits various abilities. Jumping that extra mile or shielding yourself from enemies is a breeze to do as the controls are damn near perfect.

Online Multiplayer as mentioned above returns to giving the whole kit and caboodle. Customisation returns with more depth than ever and various game modes also make a return such as the expected team Deathmatch mode along with search and destroy. A host of player created games return as well. My personal favorite being Infected.

There are some things missing from this title though, and you will notice them moreso if you are a fan of the series. Contextual lean has disappeared and the ability to knife has undergone a damning overhaul. Punching an enemy is now no longer precise or fun as it was previously. Time after time I clicked the analog stick only for the game to ignore its acknowledgement. Sure the animation was there, but the outcome ended up being 2 online opponents throwing fists that should have caused blows but didn’t.

Controls aside the issues are using the same usual setup we have all become accustomed to with a few tweaks here and there.

Visually the game is impressive on the next generation platform. Its super sharp and vivid, character models look fantastic and the lighting effects will have you in awe of particular places. Water effects are also more realistic and believable.

The game visually in one word is “Stunning” to say the least. Cut Scenes also look exactly like the game, many times I thought I was still watching a scene.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is another solid title in the series and it provides a new innovative way to play, something which I have been waiting for since Black Ops. It provides a stellar cast of characters, a compelling story that may be predictable, but is simply action packed up until the very last moment. It is undoubtedly one of the most unique titles of the franchise that deserves recognition.
