FIFA, arguably the best selling football game of all time is back with this year’s installment namely FIFA 15. FIFA 15 brings the best a football game can bring with another year of leagues, players and more. Sadly the game hasn’t changed much over the past year, it’s still a good looking game with many features of FIFA 14 available. Player cards, return as does the purchasable currency for those hardcore fans.
Many features from the live matches to online leagues return along with player customization and much more. Graphically as mentioned above the game looks good, just not as good as I had hoped. Players glide across the pitch during cut scenes, I even encountered a player that just seemed to lay on the floor for the entire match after getting an injury during play. Bugs are clearly present, which will inevitably end up being patched at some point.
FIFA 15 does feature some improvements over its predecessor, mainly in the form of characters visual emotion as well as improved A.I and over 600 player reactions that have been added. These certainly add to the authenticity of the experience on offer. FIFA 15 feels like merely a step up though rather than a leap forward.
A.I certainly react quickly this time round, I often found myself getting frustrated with how poor my performance was, the opposing teams were more aggressive, smarter and almost new exactly what I was going to do and when, prompting me to take a more defensive style of play. I still found each match enthralling, just a tad more difficult creating a more competitive edge that will leave you wounded if you get frustrated easily.
FIFA 15 takes that extra step to a more live tv type experience, cut aways, replays and close ups look fantastic. The attention to detail is clearly seen with players looking closer than ever before to their real life counterparts. When comparing the game to a live match on sky, highlights, etc. All appear roughly identical, making FIFA 15 even more impressive.
The game offers hours and hours of play through the single player and multiplayer options available. The controls are still fluid too, slightly more fine tuned for more precise play. The button mapping is the same as before ensuring any fan of the series can simply jump in and play without having to learn new combinations.
Audio is another importance in a FIFA game and it is still stellar this time round, commentators Martin Tyler and Adam Smith have much more to say and even have conversations about the players on the team along with their worries about various teams’ performances. Interesting facts can be heard here and it is nice to hear a more dynamic commentary rather than just a repetition of sentences.
FIFA 15 has clearly ended up being the most dynamic, immersive game in the franchise to date, still offering the best experience on consoles and PC alike. It is an improvement certainly, Just a little less than I had expected. If you are a fan of football or the franchise in general, I certainly recommend that you pick up this year’s installment.
THE VERDICT
FIFA 15 has clearly ended up being the most dynamic, immersive game in the franchise to date, still offering the best experience on consoles and PC alike.
