Run Like Hell has just been released on PlayStation Vita, a game that sounds like it may have something in common with the various temple run games on the many devices we use today. Thank god though that Run Like Hell is not a temple run game, it does indeed seeing you running through various environments, but Run Like Hell is much more than just running.
The game itself is nicely styled with that retro 2D visual aesthetic that we have become accustomed to with the likes of many indie games that are coming out this generation. It has you running from a group of insane native Americans that have an appetite for your flesh. There is no real story as such. Neat animations do try and play a part in giving a story, they simply were just not enough to make you realize what the hell was going on.
Kick aside the clumsy portrayal of the story and you’ll be left with an addictive, fun and bizarre experience that will have you hooked. Run Like Hell has an array of modes to play through from the so say story to online and challenge modes. These all work well and I found that competing with 3 other people in a race can be quite hilarious as you all rush to pick up power ups, coins and get through the finish line in first place.
The game does have micro transactions in place alike most smaller titles, but ultimately the purchase of any in game currency was simply not needed, a few hours of addictive play were enough to rack up a decent amount of coins in which to purchase a new character with.
Run Like Hell is simple to pick up and play, has an array of playable characters and power-ups to collect. Power-ups such as adrenaline to a mist or fog that slows the enemies down can be picked up. These all add to the entertainment value. It is a challenging game, obstacles plague your path and you must react quickly to avoid any perilous problems you may encounter. There are ledges to climb things to fall over and wildlife that may slow you down or even end your run.
The games only problem truly, comes in the form of its audio. Repetitive sound loops become an ear sore after around 30 minutes of play. I actually found playing Run Like Hell with the volume down was overall more enjoyable but maybe its just me.
Overall Run Like Hell is a solid game, it’s truly addictive and fun to play and will have you laughing out loud as well as steaming with frustration as you get caught up in it. It’s a game that works fantastic alone and online, and if combined these modes will ensure a plentiful supply of in game currency without hitting the bank. Run Like Hell is a title that shouldn’t be missed. Go get it on your Vita now.
