The PC version of Battlefield 4 allows for users to rent available multiplayer servers from an approved list of worldwide providers. As you canĀ rent servers, obviously the service comes with a price; players can rent both ranked and unranked servers, though ranked servers include a higher fee. As the buyer will become the acting server admin, they have the ability to control map rotation, mode rotation, and whether to list the server as Public or Private.
While there hasn’t been an official announcement from DICE or EA, the server rental service will be coming to the PS4 of Battlefield 4 in the future. In a Battlelog thread titled “Rent a server on ps4”, the obvious question of having PS4 servers to rent was asked. In a response from an EA Community Admin named “EA_Stiv”, it was revealed that EA and DICE do not “have any information on this quite yet, but it is coming soon”. While the statement is in response to a PS4-specific question, it’s possible that the service is coming to all console versions of Battlefield 4.
Without the ability to rent servers, player-made private servers are only available to the Battlefield 4 PC community. Private player-run servers were available for both the console and PC versions of Battlefield 3, regardless of having the Premium service or not.
DICE has been distributing patches to fix the problematic shooter since its launch last year. After several months, it seems that the PC and console versions are finally beginning to equalize themselves. Late last month, the Platoons private-social feature was added to all versions of Battlefield 4, but is currently only accessible for Premium members with a rank of 10 or higher. While the military-shooter still has its fair share of problems, the Naval Strike DLC is set to release in late March for Premium users, and later on for for the public.
