Sucker Punch’s Brian Fleming recently answered a few fans’ burning questions about the studio’s anticipated PS4 debut, Infamous: Second Son. Though he didn’t drop any bombs about the game, we now know a bit more than we did about the latest entry in the futuristic open-world series.
Fleming stated that the game’s main focus, from design to mechanics and story, is on protagonist Delsin Rowe’s new powers. Without giving away any yet-unrevealed abilities, Fleming said that there’s a “substantial number of individual powers in each set,” and that many are upgradeable. He also mentioned that the game’s Seattle setting necessitates designing rain-soaked environments, and that actual locations in real-world Seattle will appear in the game.
One of the more practical questions concerned the size of Infamous: Second Son’s install data, which Fleming indicated is 24 gigabytes. This falls among many of the PlayStation 4’s launch titles–compared to Battlefield 4‘s 33.9GB and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag‘s 21.2, it’s neither huge nor surprisingly small. Fleming again shot down fans’ hopes for the series’ first multiplayer mode, stating that the game is “a single-player experience”.
According to Fleming, Infamous 2‘s popular “User-Generated Content” (or UGC for short) level editor, which allows players to create missions within the game world and share them online, will not be making a return in Infamous: Second Son. Although he gave no reason for its absence, it’s likely that Sucker Punch in focusing more on creating a visually-driven next-generation experience than giving players tools to manipulate the world. Hopefully, this focus will result in the best possible single-player experience and not just a shocking lack of depth.
