Genigods Lab has officially unveiled its flagship single-player hardcore action RPG GeniGods: Nezha with a new premiere trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The debut global worldview trailer offers the first extended look at the game’s narrative scope, which reinterprets classic Chinese myths through a rare matriarchal lens. The title, built on Unreal Engine 5, is slated for a future global launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC as a premium buy-to-play experience. The news was reported by Rpgsite.

The trailer marks a significant milestone for the studio, which first revealed the game at the end of January this year. According to producer Young Lau, premiering with gamescom ONL and global platform partners is a vital step for the team. “Our core goal is to showcase the epic grandeur of Chinese celestial battles to worldwide players,” Lau said in the announcement.

Three-Stage Hero Evolution and Mythic Reinterpretation

At the heart of GeniGods: Nezha is a unique three-stage protagonist evolution. Players embody the Spirit Pearl, the primal life essence crafted by Goddess Nüwa, reincarnated as the legendary deity Nezha. The journey transforms the character from a primitive porcelain vessel, to the first mortal human, and finally to a transcended celestial warrior.

The narrative reinterprets classic myths of Kuafu Chasing the Sun and Yi Shooting the Nine Suns, centered on the lore of the solar mother goddess. This presents a rare matriarchal perspective of Chinese creation mythology for global audiences, according to the developers. The debut trailer showcases the grand Kuafu Chasing the Sun arc, reinterprets the Yi Shooting the Nine Suns myth, and presents the protagonist’s complete growth journey, alongside the climactic solar goddess chapter.

Combat, Artifacts, and Technical Ambitions

The game introduces what the studio calls an industry-first ground-air dual stance celestial combat system, breaking the ground-only limitation of traditional ARPGs. Players can also collect and equip classic Nezha artifacts, including the Fire-Tipped Spear, Wind-Fire Wheels, and Golden Brick. Equipping full sets unlocks the iconic eight-armed battle form, blending traditional Chinese myth aesthetics with futuristic cyber styles.

On the technical side, Genigods Lab has collaborated with the core production team of the blockbuster animation Ne Zha/Ne Zha 2 to bring theatrical-level real-time fluid simulation to Unreal Engine 5. This achieves photorealistic rendering of fire, water, clouds, and cosmic phenomena, elevating battles and cutscenes to feature-film visual quality. The game also features epic giant divine boss battles, a self-developed mythic artifact asset library, and a customized AAA technical architecture integrating day-night cycles and dynamic weather systems.

Gamescom 2026 Demo and Platform Availability

Attendees at gamescom 2026 can experience an exclusive hands-on demo at official platform booths from August 26 to 30. The demo includes giant boss encounters and featured artifact combat gameplay, fully demonstrating the game’s optimized performance and high-end visuals on next-gen consoles.

GeniGods: Nezha is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC, with a future global launch planned. No specific release date has been announced. As the game continues its marketing push, the Gamescom trailer serves as the clearest statement yet of its ambition to bring Chinese mythology to a worldwide audience.
